Sean Griffin Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man shot and killed by police during a prolonged gunfight in North Hollywood as 37-year-old Sean Griffin. The incident occurred on Monday morning, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The confrontation with Griffin began around 4:50 a.m. when officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Bellingham Avenue. According to LAPD Officer Charles Miller, witnesses reported that Griffin had fired shots into an occupied vehicle, resulting in the death of another man.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered Griffin, who was armed with a firearm. As Griffin aimed the weapon at the officers, they opened fire in response. Griffin then fled on foot, prompting further pursuit by the police. He ran into a nearby parking structure, where he pointed his firearm at the officers once again. This led to a third round of gunfire from the police.
Griffin was struck by bullets and collapsed. Officers provided aid until Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived, but Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene. It remains unclear whether Griffin fired any shots at the officers during the pursuit.
The man who had been shot while in the vehicle was later identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as 32-year-old Joseph Tamburello. His city of residence has not been disclosed. The relationship between Griffin and Tamburello, if any, has not been determined.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities recovered a loaded firearm with one round chambered and two additional rounds in the magazine from near Griffin. Additional live rounds were found on his person. The firearm and ammunition have been booked into evidence. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
