Michael Iorizzo Obituary, Death – Authorities in Havelock are investigating a fatal four-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old. The collision occurred on U.S. Highway 70 West, just east of Sermons Boulevard, on Monday, September 16, around 4:58 p.m. Both the Havelock Police Department and Havelock Fire/EMS responded to the scene after reports of the crash came in.
Upon arrival, responders found a complex multi-vehicle accident with several injuries. The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Michael Iorizzo from Havelock. According to City of Havelock officials, Iorizzo was traveling east on U.S. Highway 70 West when he lost control of his vehicle. This caused him to cross over the median into the westbound lanes, where his vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle.
The collision led to a multi-vehicle crash, and authorities noted that heavy rain and standing water on the roadway may have played a role in the accident. The Havelock Police Department, along with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, is handling the investigation.
