Bernard Brooks-Summers Obituary, Death – The City of Columbia Public Works employee who died in a collision on Farrow Road last week has been named. The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 27-year-old Bernard Brooks-Summers from Columbia. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Brooks-Summers had been employed by the City of Columbia since November 2023, working as a maintenance assistant for the yard trash collection service.

The collision occurred on Friday in the 5100 block of Farrow Road, close to the intersection with Craven Street. According to Columbia Police, the accident involved two City of Columbia public works vehicles that collided around 2:45 p.m. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined, as police have not released details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Following the collision, Brooks-Summers was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Prisma Health Richland hospital. Although the injuries sustained were described by city officials as non-life-threatening, the other driver remains under medical care.

City Manager Teresa Wilson expressed the city’s profound sorrow over the loss, stating, “The City of Columbia is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our beloved City employees. Our prayers and condolences go out to the families, friends, and co-workers affected by this tragic event.”
