Donald Baker, the deceased, was driving a 2015 Kia sedan when he arrived at the Flemming Meadows Boat Ramp area. According to police, Baker reversed his vehicle down an embankment towards the waterline. However, the car suddenly accelerated backward and plunged into the lake. In the moments following the crash, Baker managed to call 911 for assistance while his vehicle was submerged.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, deploying a boat enforcement unit, a dive team, and additional personnel from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. The search for Baker’s vehicle involved the use of an underwater robot, which eventually led divers to the submerged car. Unfortunately, Baker was found deceased inside the vehicle.
