Elma Mast Obituary, Death – An 18-year-old was fatally injured when a van collided with the horse-drawn buggy she was riding in on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Log Cabin Lane and Goshen Road, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident involved a white Dodge van that struck the rear of the horse-drawn buggy. The impact caused significant damage to the buggy and resulted in serious injuries to its occupants. The 18-year-old passenger, identified as Elma Mast, was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The two other passengers in the buggy were airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis for further medical treatment. The driver of the van and a juvenile passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The horse involved in the accident was injured but received on-site treatment from members of Mast’s family. Emergency responders from the Jefferson County Fire Protection District and Litton Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision.
