Walt Ehmer Obituary, Death – Walt Ehmer, the president and CEO of Waffle House, has passed away at the age of 58, as announced by the Atlanta Police Foundation on Sunday. Ehmer, who also served on the foundation’s board of trustees, had a distinguished career with the restaurant chain.
Ehmer joined Waffle House in 1992 and quickly advanced through the ranks. By 2002, he had become president, and later took on the roles of CEO and chairman. His leadership and commitment were well recognized, with Georgia Tech University, his alma mater, highlighting his significant contributions to both Waffle House and the community.
Mayor Andre Dickens praised Ehmer’s impact, noting in a release that his leadership, dedication, and warmth had a profound effect on many people within the Waffle House organization and beyond. “He leaves behind a remarkable legacy,” Dickens said.
The Waffle House board of directors also released a statement on Sunday afternoon, revealing that Ehmer had died after a prolonged illness. The board expressed that Ehmer would be deeply missed by the entire Waffle House family.
In addition to his work with Waffle House, Ehmer was actively involved in various organizations. He served as chair of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association Board of Trustees from 2012 to 2013 and was a member of several boards, including the Georgia Tech Foundation Board and the Georgia Tech Advisory Board.
Waffle House, founded in 1955, operates more than 1,900 locations across 25 states. Ehmer is survived by his three children, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
