Joe Cornelius Sr, Keisha Miles Obituary, Death – An 11-year-old boy has been charged with the murders of a former mayor and his daughter in Minden, Louisiana. The shooting, which occurred early on Sunday, September 1, was reported to authorities around 6:30 a.m. According to KSLA, police arrived at the scene to find two individuals with gunshot wounds inside a residence.
The victims were identified as 82-year-old Joe Cornelius Sr. and his daughter, 31-year-old Keisha Miles. Cornelius, a former councilman and interim mayor, was a well-known figure in the community. Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots, with one recalling the sounds as “about eight gunshots. Pow, pow, pow and then pow, pow, pow.”
Following the initial report, the Minden Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the 11-year-old boy. According to police, the child confessed to the murders of Cornelius and Miles and has reportedly shown no remorse for his actions.
A neighbor suggested that the altercation might have stemmed from a dispute over video game charges. The neighbor claimed that the boy and Cornelius had been arguing over these charges before the shooting occurred. The neighbor also noted that the boy is autistic and mentioned that Cornelius had firearms at home from his time with the sheriff’s department, which the boy might have accessed.
The Minden Police Department has not confirmed whether the suspect is autistic. The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
