Jian Chan Obituary, Death – The victim of the homicide on Walsen Road has been identified as 54-year-old Jian Chan, who was the spouse of the suspect, Stephen Chan. Our deepest sympathies go out to Jian Chan’s family and friends during this challenging time.
According to earlier reports, at around 6:55 A.M. on the day of the incident, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) Communications Center received an emergency call from a man claiming responsibility for his wife’s death. The caller abruptly ended the call, but authorities were able to trace the phone’s location to Walsen Road in unincorporated El Paso County.
Further investigation linked the phone number to a possible address in the 13800 block of Horsetail Terrace in Colorado Springs. Shortly thereafter, another call was made to report that a body had been found near the 600 block of Walsen Road. Deputies who arrived at the scene confirmed the presence of a deceased female.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Springs Police Department was asked to perform a welfare check at the Horsetail Terrace address. The man who made the initial call, 79-year-old Stephen Chan, had already arrived at the Falcon Substation of the Colorado Springs Police Department, where he was taken into custody. He was subsequently identified as the suspect in the case.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is now leading the investigation into the incident. Stephen Chan has been charged with First Degree Murder and Kidnapping. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will provide additional details and confirm the victim’s identity.
