Stephen Chan Obituary, Death – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) is investigating a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, September 1, involving a 79-year-old man named Stephen Chan, who allegedly killed his wife. Chan was arrested on charges of murder and kidnapping following a series of events that began with a distressing 911 call.
According to the EPSO, the incident began around 7 a.m. on Sunday when Chan called 911, claiming he had killed his wife. However, he abruptly ended the call before providing further details. Authorities quickly traced the call to the area of Walsen Road, located just south of the Gleneagle neighborhood in unincorporated El Paso County.
Shortly after the initial 911 call, another report came in to EPSO about a body being dumped near the 600 block of Walsen Road, close to Smith Creek. Deputies who responded to the scene discovered the body of a deceased woman.
Further investigation into the phone number used to make the initial 911 call led officers to a potential address linked to the suspect, located in the 13800 block of Horsetail Terrace, near Voyager Parkway. In response, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) conducted a welfare check at this address. However, by the time they arrived, Chan had already gone to a CSPD substation. There, officers identified and detained him.
EPSO has taken charge of the investigation, and Chan now faces charges of First Degree Murder and Kidnapping. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending confirmation by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities have stated that there is no known threat to the community at this time.
