Jose Lopez Centeno Obituary, Death – A tragic series of accidents on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina on Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 72-year-old Glendale man and injuries to a 19-year-old Pomona woman. The initial collision occurred around 4 a.m. on the eastbound freeway, west of Citrus Avenue, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The first crash involved a 2011 Toyota Camry, driven by a 20-year-old man from Pomona, which collided with the rear of a 2012 Honda Civic operated by the Glendale man. The impact forced the Civic into the far right lane, where it then struck a 2023 Kenworth big rig driven by a 64-year-old man from Carson.
After the initial collision, the Civic was left disabled in the fast lane. Subsequently, it was hit by a 2021 Mazda 3 driven by a 19-year-old woman from Montclair. The driver of the Civic, identified by the Medical Examiner’s office as Jose Lopez Centeno, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in one or both of the crashes.
The 19-year-old Pomona woman, who was a passenger in the Mazda, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The CHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crashes and has not yet released additional details.
