Robert Thomas Kampfer Obituary, Death – A resident of Boone lost his life in Caldwell County on Friday evening when his motorcycle veered across the center line and collided with a Mercedes Benz, as reported by investigators from the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on U.S. 321, close to Rocky Knob Road. The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as 64-year-old Robert Thomas Kampfer, who succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
According to highway patrol officials, preliminary investigations suggest that careless and reckless driving were significant factors contributing to the accident. The driver of the Mercedes Benz, along with a passenger, sustained no injuries.
No charges will be pursued in this matter. During the investigation at the scene, a portion of U.S. 321 was temporarily closed.
