Rebecca Joanne Olsen Obituary, Death – One of the two individuals who died in a wrong-way crash in San Jose on Monday has been identified. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner revealed that the 47-year-old woman was Rebecca Joanne Olsen from San Jose. The identity of the 14-year-old boy who also perished in the accident has not yet been released.
On Tuesday, ABC7 shared video footage showing a Toyota Tacoma traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 85 for several minutes before colliding with a Tesla, in which Olsen and the teenager were traveling. The crash resulted in their deaths.
An email was sent to families at the school where the teenage boy was enrolled. The email informed them that the boy was a 9th grader who had been at the school for a short period and was reportedly happy there.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 39-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized. The truck had Florida license plates. A review of his records in Florida reveals several traffic violations, including a misdemeanor for careless driving.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still investigating the circumstances of the crash, including why the driver was traveling in the wrong direction and where he entered the freeway. They are considering felony manslaughter charges as part of their investigation.
As of Wednesday, the driver’s condition remains unclear, and he has not yet been booked. The CHP is urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
