Beverly Barnes Obituary, Death – On Monday, Columbus police confirmed that the deaths of a couple found on Sunday were the result of a murder-suicide and released their identities. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the 1100 block of Parma Avenue, located on the city’s Southwest Side. Police were alerted to the situation by reports of gunfire in the area. Upon their arrival at the residence, officers discovered two individuals inside the home with gunshot wounds.
The deceased woman was identified as Beverly Barnes, 59, from Columbus’ East Side. She was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire medics at 2:07 p.m.
The man involved was identified as James Barnes, 55. He was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center downtown by fire medics. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m.
According to the Columbus Police Department, James Barnes is believed to have shot and killed Beverly Barnes before turning the gun on himself. The exact nature of their relationship has not been confirmed by the police. Homicide detectives continue to investigate the case.
The police have not disclosed additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
