Caden Tellier Obituary, Death – A memorial service was held on Monday to honor a high school football player from South Alabama who tragically passed away following an injury sustained during a game over the weekend.
Caden Tellier, a junior quarterback at Morgan Academy, died on Saturday after suffering an injury during a Friday night football match against Southern Academy in Selma. He was remembered as a compassionate and gifted athlete who achieved much in his brief 16 years.
Officials from the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) reported that the 16-year-old sustained a brain injury during the game. He was subsequently airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for medical care.
A family member shared the news of Tellier’s passing on Facebook Saturday evening, mentioning that he would contribute to saving lives through organ donation. Bryan Oliver, the Headmaster of Morgan Academy, confirmed to al.com that Tellier was indeed an organ donor.
Students, parents, and faculty members, dressed in the school’s maroon and gold colors, gathered in the gymnasium of the small private school for a memorial and prayer service. Family members occupied the front row during the ceremony.
Jamie Tellier, the father of the deceased, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, stating, “There has been an outpouring of love that we have received from everyone in this room, people across the country.”
He shared insights about his son, saying, “My son was an exceptional athlete. But the thing he loved the most was to talk about Jesus.” He reassured the school’s football players that Caden’s spirit would remain present, asserting, “Caden is not going to want me to stop doing things.”
In remembrance of Tellier, flowers, balloons featuring his jersey number 17, and heartfelt notes were placed in the student parking lot outside the school. One message read, “Miss U Buddy,” written in chalk beside a heart.
Morgan Academy announced the suspension of all school activities for the week, allowing the community to come together, reflect, and support one another during this difficult time.
The school requested that the entire AISA family and the people of Alabama join in their collective mourning.
