Ethan Harrell Obituary, Death – A high school student-athlete from Upstate tragically lost his life early Monday morning due to a UTV side-by-side accident in Spartanburg County. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 16-year-old Ethan Harrell from Inman, who was involved in the fatal ATV incident that took place early Sunday morning in Chesnee.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Harrell and two other individuals were traveling north on an off-road side-by-side vehicle on Hardin Road, near Henry Road, shortly after midnight when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and overturned.

Troopers reported that Harrell was one of the passengers. He was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries before 2 a.m. on Monday. As stated by Spartanburg County School District Two, Harrell was an 11th-grade student at Boiling Springs High School, where he played as a pitcher and first baseman on the baseball team.

“He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed discussing trucks, motors, and hunting,” remarked Head Coach Jeff Lipscomb. “Ethan was a fantastic team player who was cherished by everyone.”

In response to this tragedy, the school district arranged for counselors and special services team members to be present at Boiling Springs High School on Monday morning to support students and staff as they mourned Harrell’s passing.

“He consistently exhibited positivity, good manners, and was well-loved and respected by both his peers and the faculty at BSHS,” stated Principal Zack McQuigg.

“I have never heard anyone speak negatively about Ethan; he always represented his family and school community in a commendable way. His absence will be profoundly felt.”

District officials indicated that they will continue to offer grief resources at the BSHS campus for as long as necessary.
